Can Society Have Needs And Aims?

Can society have needs and aims?

Yes. Society is made up of different people, with different backgrounds, beliefs, perspectives and point of views. But the thing that makes a society is the commonality among those. For example during election, we vote for a politician because there is something similar from your advocacy and to what he/she is pushing through. This means that there is a common societal need that every society should have. Our orderly interdependence brings a kind of positive relationship among the members of society. It is this positive relationship that brings the positive contribution as a whole and cooperation among individuals of a particular society.

In history, our societal aims and needs continues to change, evolve and develop. We have developed some unsaid rules, and values among ourselves. Though, some of the main aims of society is to continue to exist and let others live, grow up each day. In this way, our society enables us to be more cooperative in the community so that we can achieve our individual goals.

In philosophy, we the term "for the common good". But what exactly is a common good? In its simplest form, common good is anything that benefit or interests the society as a whole, or most members of a given community. It is also defined as what is achieved by citizenship, collective action, and active participation in the realm of politics and public service. Thus, every society should have a common goal, needs, and aims that should inclusively benefit all people as part of a larger community. Remember that each individual is born different, and our contribution to achieving collective goals are different, but if a society embrace togetherness, it is likely to experience higher levels of development and higher living standards as compared to societies that are divided.
